Here's an new twist on the classic desert we all know and love: The Banana Split. Instead of putting the bananas in raw, try grilling them to add some interesting new flavor! Check out "What We Want Now: Grilled Banana Splits" below and try out this new take on the old classic.
We've been looking into buying a new grill lately, and I fear that by the time we actually make a decision, it'll be well into fall and we'll be lamenting the fact that it's no longer warm enough to linger outdoors and cook dinner (or dessert). To make things feel even more urgent, it seems everywhere I turn I encounter grilling recipes that look to be real game changers. Like this very grown-up caramel, nutty roasted banana creation.
What I love most about this recipe is the sentiment behind its conception. Teri Lyn Fisher of the blog Spoon Fork Bacon discusses how excited she was to get ice cream as a young girl but how, as an adult, she finds herself enjoying it straight from the carton, often standing up by the freezer. I can relate.
These banana splits are a great step on the path to changing all of that: the recipe isn't difficult or labor-intensive. In fact, it's a pretty standard banana split recipe, but before you add the bananas to your bowl, you grill them for 3 to 5 minutes on each side to soften them and draw out their sweet flavor. And then a most memorable summer dessert is served. Now, it's time to finish researching grills and make a decision — there are roasted banana splits to be had.
